Abstract
Basidiobolomycosis is caused by Basidiobolus ranarum, a fungus in the order Entomophthorales. It is a rare condition that usually causes subcutaneous infections following traumatic implantation in immunocompetent people in tropical countries. This case describes a previously healthy middle-aged woman who presented with a recurrence of inguinal basidiobolomycosis due to a defaulted follow-up. She had undergone an excisional biopsy of an inguinal lump which showed fungal filaments on histology. She had not been followed up further and not taken any antifungal treatment due to the absence of any symptoms. She presented again after a few months with a rapidly enlarging groin mass and inguinal lymphadenopathy. Urgent biopsy of the lesion was performed and Basidiobolus ranarum was isolated on tissue fungal culture. The patient was started on oral itraconazole 200 mg twice daily and was completely cured without any complications after 3 months of treatment.
